North
Devon was stoked to have Bing Copeland and the Bing team, Matt & Margaret
Calvani, Mick Rogers and Elliot Dudley, in town during September. For
those who don’t know Bing Copeland is not only one of the original surfboard
builders from back in the 1950’s but has also sailed around the world for over
half a century. Bing has played a major role in helping the surfing
industry become what it is today.

For their
arrival the ocean seemed to know it needed to produce a few gems and it did not
disappoint. On Saturday morning Saunton saw some lovely waves rolling in, with
Bing’s team riders Mick and Elliot loving it.

From there it was up to the
Nineplus’ store for a BBQ and book signing. There was a great turnout and
mellow vibes. Nineplus proved to be the perfect venue for this event with its
traditional feel and large selection of short/long/fun board’s as the backdrop.
All 30 of the books were snapped up, signed by the man himself… and the ink
kept flowing… with old and new Bing boards taking advantage of this rare
opportunity.

The day
drifted on to Croyde where musician Matthew P continued the mellow vibes.
He performed to a sold out audience settling in for the award-winning new movie
Boardroom – Legends of Surfboard Shaping.

Introduced by Bing, the film gave a
real insight back into the ‘good old days’, of how the now multi-billion dollar
industry, took its early steps.
Elliot Dudley ended the day by announcing the winners of his Surfers Against Sewage raffle. Props to the Museum of British Surfing for putting on a great evening. It capped a great day and one everyone was stoked to be part of! Good times…
